February 29 (SeeNews) – The outlook for the global solar industry in 2016 remains positive, IHS said today as it projected that annual installations will grow 17% this year to 69 GW.  This year’s growth will build on a 35% increase seen in 2015 when photovoltaic (PV) installations reached 59 GW.    IHS said that while PV additions in Europe have slowed dramatically in recent years due to weaker financial incentives, global demand remains strong.   In 2016, the US, India and China will account for most of the 10 GW global growth as these markets will expand by 5.6 GW, 2.7 GW and 0.9 GW, respectively.By the end of 2016, the world’s PV capacity will top 310 GW with 70% of it located in five countries — China, the US, Japan, Germany and Italy. Due to stalling annual installations, Germany will be overtaken by the US and Japan and will fall from second to fourth place in terms of installed PV capacity.IHS also forecast that average PV module prices will fall less than 5% in 2016, the smallest year-over-year decline recorded by the analytics provider. “The supply chain continues to benefit from a period of relatively stable pricing, and there could be a new wave of capacity expansions,” said Josefin Berg, senior analyst of solar demand for IHS Technology.
